Thesis B, Cow

Thesis
Second semester of Junior year we had a class called pre-production. This was a course that we took to plan for our senior thesis film, which would be our final graduation projects. These films were similar to the cartoons that Pixar puts at the start of their movie, except of course for the level of quality, given that it was student work.
During pre-pro you had two thesis ideas you developed. As part of the process, these ideas were subjected to faculty critique at three points along the way, after which you would make changes. At the end of the year your two ideas were voted on by the faculty, and they picked which one you would develop. (Unless both passed, in which case you got to choose.) If neither of your ideas passed, then you didn't pass.
This semester, the Drawing for Animators class acted as a co-requestet to Pre-pro. Giving us a class in which we developed our character designs and environments for our thesis. At the end of the semester, we took our chosen idea, and added color studies and the like to it.

This is my chosen thesis. I'm pleased to say it passed, and had I chosen to stay at Ringling, this is the film I would have developed into a final 3D animation.
Note: the final video file is too big for blogger, so until I can find away around that, here's a version that was made close to the end. (The chicken was made slightly less obnoxious for the final)

Late Development:
This started off as the 1-min cow project I did in concept 3, found earlier in this blog.

My teachers were a bit concerned with using particles in Maya, given all the other things I already had to do so I was encouraged to experiment with my fire stylistically.

Art Book

Freshman Year
As part of my Communications Design class we had to make an art book. I called mine 'Alliterations are Addicting'. It was 18 pages long and I made the pages in photoshop and made the cover out of fabric and cardboard. Then I glued cinnamon between the pages so it would smell good. I was inspired by Graeme Base's Animalia. This was one of the projects I enjoyed more, and from time to time I've continued to use this 'cutout' style. Some of these are single pages, while the larger ones span two pages.

Color Theory

Freshman Year one of the classes I took was color theory. We painted a lot of still lives under different kinds of lighting and made a lot of paint swatches, so we could really understand how light and color interact. I didn't paint any masterpieces, but I learned a lot and I think my paintings improved greatly by the end of the course. Below are some of the ones I'm more pleased with. All of these are acrylic on canvas.
